A new week has begun and it’s time for school again! Every time you think about it, you feel butterflies in your stomach (not the kind you get when you’re in love…that’s a topic for another time:)) and your anxiety goes through the roof! But what if I told you that it doesn’t have to be this way; that Jesus Christ has already given you the tools, not only to succeed but to get through your schooling and studies with ease! I wish I fully understood these things years ago, but as your sister in Christ, I want you to know these tools that were given to you, so without further ado, here are three tools that you have in Christ that will help you succeed and thrive!

  1. Peace in Christ

Did you know that Jesus Christ left his peace with you? He said in John 14:27,” Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid (NKJV).” So, tell me: why is it that you get anxious when you think about school and exams? I think I know, but please correct me if I’m wrong. I believe it’s because you’ve allowed your heart to be troubled and afraid. Maybe because of what people have said concerning a particular class and how difficult it’ll be, or maybe you don’t believe in yourself that you will succeed. I know how easy it is to get to that place, I’ve been there too! I remember when I was in high school, we were warned from the start that secondary 4 (grade 10 in some parts of the world,I believe) would be a hard year and that if we didn’t pass that year, we wouldn’t get our high school diploma. So from there, I was already afraid of getting into that year, yet I was 3 years away from it. I allowed my heart to be troubled and afraid of what will happen in secondary 4, because of what I heard about it. But, by God’s grace that year turned out to be one of my best years in high school. So all the stress and anxiety was not worth it! This is why I wish I knew in depth about the peace that Jesus left with me. This is not a peace that causes your teachers to cancel every exam or for school to be shut down permanently lol. This is the kind of peace that even in the midst of midterms and minister’s exams, you are still found peaceful, your heart doesn’t skip a beat. It’s not the kind of peace that allows you to scroll through social media the night before an exam that you haven’t studied for. This is the kind of peace that when You’ve done your best to study and you’ve got help from a teacher or tutor for subjects you don’t understand, yet you fail, but you’re still at peace! This is the kind of peace that lets you know that Jesus Christ is the shepherd of your life and soul, not your school or the result of your tests. So I invite you to receive this peace that only Jesus Christ can give you and take it with you this week when you enter your classroom!

  1. Identity in Christ

Guess what? You were given an identity! And that identity can only be found in Jesus Christ, not in the pourcentage of your grade! Know this: Your identity is based on the fact that as a child of God, you are loved by Jesus no matter what; whether you get 100% on your test or 0%. By telling you this, am I saying not to put any effort into your classes? Absolutely not! But what I am saying is that your grade won’t make God love you more or less! This is what’s so amazing about finding your identity in Christ, His love meter won’t go up or down, it remains constant towards His children. He’s not like people who love you when it looks like you’re succeeding, but if you are failing, they look down on you. Nope, my Jesus is not like that. Therefore, remain secure in the love that God has for you, and know that everything will turn out well for you because you love Him. Give your best in everything, but let nothing affect your identity in Jesus.

  1. Purpose in Christ

I’m sure someone must have already told you that you have purpose here on earth, but if you haven’t already heard it, I hope it will bring you great joy to know that you were born with purpose, you are not an accident! This to me means that every experience you’ve had, every success or failure, every class you’ve taken and everything you’ve learned, God will use it to fulfill every purpose He has for you. So, remember that algebra class, or that art class that you have no idea why you had to take it? Well, guess what? Sitting in those “unimportant” classes taught you patience, endurance and discipline. God will surely use those qualities to bring His plans to pass in your life, even if you didn’t have perfect grades in that class. Therefore, enjoy every moment, rejoice when you do well, and don’t beat yourself up about every bad grade (get up and do better!) because the Lord, our God will use every situation to serve for the good of your purpose here on earth!

Love,

Shéshé
