In the book of John chapter 21:20-23, we see that Jesus was having an important conversation with one of his disciples named Peter. He was telling Peter of the way in which he [Peter] would die, but as they were talking, Peter turned his head and he saw John walking behind them. Now, John was one who was described as the beloved of Jesus (or maybe he just described himself as that lol). So, Peter, instead of engaging further in the conversation he was having with Jesus by asking Him more questions about what will happen in his own life, he became a bit more interested in John’s life. He wanted to know how John will die. He asked Jesus in verse 21, “But Lord, what about this man?” I’m not sure what was going on in Peter’s mind at that moment, but maybe he was thinking “why do I get this gruesome death. This guy seem to be Jesus’ favourite, so maybe he’ll give him a better death.” I’ve noticed this kind of behaviour with children between them and their siblings; if their parent ask them to do something that isn’t too appealing to them like eat their vegetables, they’ll ask “what about my sibling, she didn’t have to eat that, or will she have to eat it too? This is such immature behaviour. But, Jesus’ response is so amazing, He said, “if I will that he remain till I come, WHAT IS THAT TO YOU? YOU FOLLOW ME.” So In other words Jesus was saying to Peter “worry about yourself and mind your own business. Your life’s journey is between you and Me. It doesn’t matter what someone’s else’s journey may look like. YOU FOLLOW ME.” The response that Jesus gave gives so much hope because it means that we don’t have to compete with our neighbour about what they have or what they don’t have. Maybe your colleague owns 5 beautiful houses, but you’re still renting a really ugly apartment, what is that to you? Maybe they’re only 18 and yet they got married before you who’s already 29, what is that to you? Maybe your colleague got promoted, yet you were at the job before them, what is that to you? Jesus wants you to know that this journey is between you and Him. He does as He pleases. No need to compare your life to others. You simply follow Him and He will lead you. In the end, it is all for His glory! But rest assured that He cares for you and wants the best for you. Your journey may not look like the man or woman next door, but you’re still in God’s plan, as long as you keep following Him. Stay blessed.

Until next time, keep abiding in the vine!

You are much loved!
